The Marymound Annual Meeting in its second year with a Cultural Showcase was once again presented to a capacity crowd at the Marymound School gymnasium. The support from the community was outstanding as Her Honour, The Honourable Janice Filmon, Lieutenant Governor of Manitoba attended and shared some very complimentary and inspiring words about Marymound and child care.
Many other dignitaries were present including Jay Rodgers, Deputy Minister of Families and Nic Curry, MLA Kildonan who brought greetings from the Province. Also attending were Wab Kinew, MLA Fort Rouge as well as the Children’s Advocate, Darlene McDonald in addition to others.
Youth leader and Marymound Board Member, Michael Redhead Champagne spoke passionately about the event’s theme–Strength in Diversity as well as the Marymound Way.
Another highlight was the popular Milestone Achievement award presented to a Marymound Youth. This year Emily, now 18, was the winner, and she bravely spoke how Marymound has helped change her life and given her an opportunity for a bright future.
The event went off seamlessly thanks to the maintenance department’s room set up, the kitchen staff‘s great lunch, Cameron’s audio/visual efforts, and Denis and all contributors for setting up a wonderful cultural display.
