Construction of our new healing home, Prairie Tides Community Healing, is almost complete, with doors set to open in 2026.
Over the past decade, reports released by the Manitoba Advocate for Children and Youth have highlighted significant gaps in mental health and addiction supports for youth. Prairie Tides arrives at a critical time, as young people continue to face profound challenges with limited resources available.
A Safe, Culturally Grounded Healing Home
Prairie Tides Healing Home is a live-in, culturally safe residence for female and female identifying youth age 16-21 requiring intensive, holistic support for substance misuse and co-occurring mental health issues. Located along the riverbank at 442 Scotia Street in West Kildonan, this purpose-built facility represents a significant step forward in meeting the needs of Manitoba youth.
Why Prairie Tides?
Designed in collaboration with community and guided by Indigenous values, Prairie Tides Healing Home is a 11-bed facility created to be a safe and welcoming environment. Amenities include quiet spaces, shared communal areas, educational supports, and access to land-based healing. Youth receive 24-hour care that respects their identity and fosters connection, stability, and hope for the future.
Prairie Tides will embody leading-edge approaches to healing and treatment, grounded in the Reconciled Healing Model. Our Two-Eyed Seeing approach integrates Western therapeutic modalities with cultural healing supports, addressing the physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual needs of youth.
What Makes Us Unique
Prairie Tides Healing Home is the only facility in Manitoba with clinicians certified in the Neurosequential Model of Therapeutics™ (NMT™). NMT™ Assessments help us understand how trauma and adversity have shaped a young person’s brain development and functioning. These insights guide the creation of individualized healing plans, ensuring youth receive the right supports, in the right order, at the right time.
In addition, Prairie Tides will have an Elder-in-residence and a Cultural Healing Coordinator offering ceremonies and land-based cultural activities. Youth will have access to a year-round greenhouse to grow medicines and participate in traditional activities such as cooking, fishing, fire-making, beading, storytelling, sharing circles, dancing, drumming, and singing.
Education and Life Skills
Youth will also have the opportunity to continue their studies. Prairie Tides provides education and curriculum supports in ELA, Math, Health, Culture, and Career Development/Work Experience, ensuring a holistic approach to growth and healing.
