Prairie Tides Community Healing

History and Vision

Prairie Tides was created in response to a pressing need for youth-centered healing options in Manitoba. The initiative grew from a commitment to provide care that is relational, culturally grounded, and accessible. Recognizing the diverse needs of youth and their families, Prairie Tides offers two complementary pathways for healing:

  • Outpatient: Prairie Tides Community Healing Services — offering flexible, culturally attuned therapy and support for youth and families in the community.

The name Prairie Tides emerged through a community-led focus group that included an Indigenous Advisory Circle, board members, and local stakeholders including youth voice. Once chosen, Dr. Elder Albert McLeod shared this guiding reflection:

“We encourage youth to connect with the skyworld above to understand their place in the universe and their relationship with the moon that influences the tides across the globe. The emotional and spiritual journeys of youth ebb and flow like the tides of our rivers, lakes, and ocean. We stand with them as they forge a path that aligns with their hopes and dreams.”

Prairie Tides embraces holistic healing, integrating Neurosequential Model of Therapeutics™ (NMT™), Elder guidance, land-based connections, and the Indigenous Cultural Healing Coordinators.

The Neurosequential Network acknowledges that Prairie Tides Community Healing has completed Neurosequential Model of Therapeutics™ (NMT™) Training and is recognized as a Phase II NMT Certified Site.”

Using this leading-edge, developmentally sensitive approach to clinical problem solving, our trained clinicians are able to identify, plan, and deliver interventions for home, school, and community that address developmental needs and the impacts of adversity.

This sequenced approach emphasizes safety, regulation, and supportive relationships before moving to more complex social and emotional skill development.

Evidence Based Care

The Neurosequential Model of Therapeutics™ (NMT™ ) is a neuroscience-informed, developmentally sensitive approach to clinical problem solving.

It is not a therapy, and it does not endorse a single therapeutic method or technique. Rather, it helps the clinical team select and sequence specific therapeutic, educational and enrichment activities which are most likely to help address the client’s current challenges.

How It Works

The NMT™ assessment process looks at both past history and current functioning. The nature and timing of negative and positive developmental experiences is reviewed. By using this developmental’ lens, in combination with an evaluation of current strengths and challenges, the clinical team is able to create a personalized treatment approach for the individual.

How It Helps

The NMT™ Clinical Practice Tools (AKA NMT™ Brain Map or NMT™ Metrics) help create a snapshot into the current functional organization of an individual’s ‘brain.’ This working model helps guide clinical treatment planning and allows ongoing re-evaluation of the treatment process. As the client changes, their needs will change. The NMT™ metric ensures the utilization of the most effective interventions, timed specifically for the client’s current developmental capabilities and needs, thereby optimizing the probability of success.

Community Healing Services

At Prairie Tides Community Healing, our clinical approach is rooted in a holistic, trauma-responsive framework that honours both neuroscience and culture. We recognize that healing is not one-size-fits-all. Each youth’s care plan is thoughtfully shaped by their developmental experiences, relational history, cultural identity, and current strengths, ensuring interventions are responsive, respectful, and clinically sound.

Our services include Neurosequential Model of Therapeutics™ (NMT™) assessments and direct therapeutic intervention across multiple modalities. When used together, these services create a powerful, integrated pathway—linking assessment insights to targeted, developmentally appropriate therapy. However, they are not dependent on one another. Agencies, caregivers, and families may access an NMT assessment independently to inform planning and placement decisions, or engage in direct therapy without an assessment, depending on their immediate needs and circumstances.

This flexible model allows Prairie Tides to meet youth and systems where they are—whether the goal is deeper understanding, targeted intervention, or both—while maintaining a consistent focus on safety, connection, and long-term healing.

Psychological & NMT™ Assessments

We provide comprehensive psychological assessments, including the Neurosequential Model of Therapeutics™ (NMT)™, to understand developmental history, neurobiological functioning, and trauma impacts. These assessments help guide targeted, healing-focused interventions.

Each participant receives a customized plan built around their strengths, needs, goals, and cultural identity, developed collaboratively with caregivers and support networks.
